Marin is a typical junior high school student with a cheerful demeanor and a caring adoptive family. When a mysterious mirage appears in the sky above the entire earth, her life is turned upside down. Monomakia, killer androids from the sky formation Brigadoon, descend to Earth and begin hunting down little Marin. As she seeks refuge in a shrine, she discovers a blue bottle containing a protector, a sword-wielding, gun-wielding alien named Melan Blue. Together, they must save the earth while dealing with family crises, school prejudice, and the police, as well as come to terms with Marin's past and Melan's unexplained mission, and learn to trust each other. The story is set in 1969 Japan and features a colorful cast of friends and foes.

BRIGADOON: marin & (BRIGADOON, Burigadn Marin to Meran) is a Sunrise-produced Japanese anime television series. It aired on Wowow from July 21, 2000 to February 9, 2001, and Kadokawa published a manga adaptation by Nozomi Watase. The story is set in 1969 in Japan and follows Marin Asagi, an orphan girl who befriends an alien named Melan Blue. Yoshitomo Yonetani directed Brigadoon, and Takahiro Kimura designed the characters, both of whom worked on The King of Braves GaoGaiGar and Betterman. The show's setting in Yayoi, Tokyo, was inspired by director Yonetani's and art director Takashi Nakamura's former neighborhoods. Color is also a recurring theme throughout the series. Almost everyone in the cast is named after a color in some way, and the majority of the episodes, if not all, have a color in the title. Similarly, the rainbow is a significant symbol.
