Argument

Jungle King Tar-chan made its debut in the prestigious Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1988 as a delightful series. However, its journey didn't end there; it continued captivating readers from 1990 to 1995 as the gripping New Jungle King Tar-chan. Fascinatingly enough, the roots of this remarkable tale can be traced back to its captivating prototype story, Tar-san (ターサン), which appeared in the Autumn Special of 1986. In its early days, the manga hilariously parodied the iconic character Tarzan, delivering single-chapter adventures packed with laughter and entertainment. With episodes spanning a modest 7 pages, Tar-chan's prime objective was to safeguard the tranquility of the jungle, protect his beloved Jane, and navigate humorous situations with his animal companions. As the story progressed, Super Jump, the monthly publication, emerged, leading to the conclusion of another manga series, Ken-chan and Chako-chan, in 1990. Embracing a natural evolution, Jungle King Tar-chan expanded its horizons. As the page count increased to 13-15 pages, the prefix "New" was introduced, signaling a shift in the manga's tone. The episodic gag format gave way to an enthralling fighting manga premise. While epic battles and emotional development took center stage, the series intermittently returned to its lighthearted humor, seamlessly switching between intense showdowns. Interestingly, despite the title Jungle King Tar-chan, the story unfolds not in a dense jungle but on a captivating savanna, painting a vibrant and mesmerizing backdrop for Tar-chan and his companions. Through both laughter and adrenaline-inducing confrontations, this manga remains a thrilling and unpredictable adventure worth embarking upon.
