They are more widely used in the traditional fighting sport "Robbatling," where two medabots face each other. Medafighters use their Medabots in their competitive form to qualify for the World Tournament, and battle among the elite to earn the championship crown.Elementary school student Ikki Tenryou has just received his first Medabot: Metabee, an outdated pattern without a medal. However, luckily, Ikki manages to find a medal in the nearby river; but when Ikki places it in the head of Metabee, the latter begins to show odd behaviour.

He fails to obey Ikki's instructions, short-tempered and defiant. To climb the ranks to the World Tournament, however, Ikki and Metabee need to learn to work together first, no matter how daunting the prospect may seem..
