In the year 2016, the Mage King Solomon incinerated humanity's foundations. Chaldea, a secret mages organization tasked with safeguarding humanity's future, predicted humanity's extinction in 2015. Operation Grand Order was launched to repair the Singularities in history caused by Holy Grails scattered across time and space.
Chaldea's last master Ritsuka Fujimaru and his demi-servant Mash Kyrielight have traveled to and resolved six Singularities using Rayshift time travel technology. They're on their way to their most dangerous destination yet: a civilization in B.C. 2655 Mesopotamia, during the Age of Gods. Ritsuka and Mash quickly learn that Demonic Beasts prowl the countryside, attacking people and towns. Uruk, a fortress city that serves as the frontline for the battle against the beasts, is humanity's last line of defense in the midst of chaos and terror. The battlefront is led by King Gilgamesh, the King of Heroes, who enlisted the help of Heroic Spirits and assumed the role of a mage to defend his city.
Ritsuka and Mash, along with Gilgamesh and the summoned servants, must defend Uruk against the magical beasts' onslaught and defeat the Three Goddess Alliance, which seeks to wipe out humanity; all the while, a greater threat looms over Uruk, awaiting its awakening.
