Argument
In the vibrant and tumultuous Japan of 1988, a cataclysmic event occurs, triggered by a young prodigy wielding formidable psychic powers. The resulting explosion rips through Tokyo, setting the very stage for an impending global conflict, known as World War III. Swiftly apprehended and subsequently vanishing into obscurity, the young boy's fate remains shrouded in mystery. Now, in the year 2019, an urban renaissance gives birth to Neo-Tokyo—a restored metropolis beset by rampant gang warfare and relentless terrorist attacks against the governing powers. Amidst this chaotic backdrop, we find our charismatic protagonist, Shoutarou Kaneda, leading a fearless faction known as "the Capsules." Renowned for their expert motorcycle skills and their fearless nature, the Capsules are locked in an eternal struggle against their archnemesis, the notorious "Clowns." In the heat of a fierce battle, tragedy strikes when Shoutarou's closest companion, Tetsuo Shima, falls victim to a fateful accident. A chance encounter with an enigmatic esper—an individual gifted with extraordinary paranormal abilities—sets in motion a remarkable chain of events. The esper, having ingeniously escaped from a high-security government institution, inexplicably finds himself roaming the bewildering streets of Tokyo. However, this encounter becomes the catalyst for an astounding transformation within Tetsuo, as he begins to manifest his own astonishing and mystifying powers. All the while, the repressive authorities urgently deploy their resources to confine and control this latest psychic phenomenon—a desperate endeavor to avert the resurfacing of a destructive force capable of plunging the city into a harrowing abyss once more.
