Argument

In its original rendition aired in Japan, Dairugger XV captivated audiences with a captivating storyline, wherein it served not only as an exploration robot but also as a valiant force dedicated to maintaining peace. Set in a prospering era on Earth, the President of the Terran League initiates a groundbreaking mission to venture beyond the confines of our galaxy. As the starship Rugger-Guard embarks on its expedition, it faces a sinister assault from a formidable ship belonging to the Galbeston Empire. In a critical turn of events, Dairugger, the awe-inspiring super robot, springs into action to safeguard our planet. However, destiny intervenes as they find themselves compelled to aid the people of Galbeston in their desperate search for a new home, while liberating them from the clutches of their despotic Emperor. It's important to note that, unlike the U.S. version, Voltron: Defender of the Universe, the Japanese narrative remains unconnected to the King of the Beasts GoLion. To accomplish their mission, the Dairugger team mobilizes three assault units, each specializing in Land, Air, and Sea operations. A magnificent total of 15 distinct components, referred to as "Rugger," possess the remarkable ability to combine harmoniously, resulting in the magnificent super-robot, Dairugger. Creatively inspired by the sport of rugby, where 15 players unite to form a formidable team, the design of these separate Rugger units brings a unique and exciting element to the narrative. In the U.S. adaptation, several alterations, including a name change from the "Galbeston Empire" to the "Drule Empire," as well as the exclusion of certain violent and explicit content, were made to ensure the show's suitability for a wider audience.
