Argument

In a dystopian future, the remnants of humanity teeter on the brink of extinction, relentlessly pursued by colossal beasts known as Klaxosaurs. Seeking sanctuary in colossal fortress cities called Plantations, the surviving humans prepare for the ultimate battle. Trained from a tender age to operate powerful mechanized warriors called FranXX, these brave individuals engage in combat, shoulder to shoulder with their partners of the opposite sex. Yet, trapped within the confines of their artificial world, their knowledge and experiences are limited, confined solely to the defense of their kind. Amidst this grim backdrop emerges Hiro, a once-promising FranXX pilot who has lost all sense of purpose and confidence after a crushing failure on a crucial aptitude test. Despairing, he abandons the ceremonial culmination of his peers' achievements and seeks solace by a tranquil lakeside in the enchanting forest. There, destiny intertwines with his own existence as he unexpectedly encounters Zero Two—a mysterious young woman bearing two enigmatic horns atop her head. Renowned as the formidable "Partner Killer," she beckons him into her enigmatic world. However, before Hiro can fully comprehend the magnitude of their chance meeting, chaos ensues as the Plantation comes under a relentless onslaught from a ravenous Klaxosaur. Without hesitation, Zero Two plunges into battle within her damaged FranXX, leaving Hiro spellbound as he witnesses her fierceness and unwavering determination. Tragedy strikes when her war machine succumbs to the relentless assault, eventually crash-landing perilously close to Hiro's location. Discovering Zero Two's partner lifeless, she boldly extends an invitation to Hiro, urging him to take the reins of the fallen FranXX alongside her. Instinctively, they merge their piloting skills and obliterate the ferocious Klaxosaur with astonishing ease.
