In a world forsaken by the divine, where life lingers in a perpetual limbo, and the deceased roam amidst the living, an extraordinary phenomenon unfolds. Enter the realm of the "gravekeepers" – enigmatic beings endowed with the power to grant the final solace by bestowing a proper burial upon the departed. Amidst this somber reality, Ai, a spirited and innocent young girl, inherits the sacred duty of her late mother as the village's gravekeeper. However, fate takes a drastic turn when a mysterious man, allegedly Ai's father, Hampnie Hambart, descends upon her tranquil haven and mercilessly decimates everyone in sight. Bereft of her home and fraught with uncertainty, Ai makes a fateful decision to embark on a journey alongside this enigmatic figure. As she traverses across the vast lands, this young gravekeeper becomes an unwavering harbinger of tranquility, offering solace to the departed and lending aid to the living. Simultaneously, she unravels the secrets of a forsaken world, abandoned by the divine, and yearns to comprehend the cataclysmic state in which it finds itself.
