In a mysterious world engulfed by a vast desert, a floating island known as the Mud Whale embarks on its perilous journey. Deep within its confines lies an ancient township, inhabited by a remarkable populace known as the "Marked." These individuals possess extraordinary powers, yet they are burdened with a tragic fate, destined to meet an untimely demise. At the heart of this enigmatic tale, we find Chakuro, a young and inquisitive archivist of the village. His insatiable curiosity propels him on a quest to record the discovery of uncharted islands that sporadically emerge from the sandy abyss. However, each newly explored territory shares a common eerie quality - they are all abandoned, bearing only remnants of a forgotten civilization. But destiny takes an unprecedented turn as Chakuro and his comrades embark on their latest expedition, their first in the past half-year. Their relentless pursuit of the unknown leads them to unearth mysterious relics from an age long past. Amidst the dilapidated ruins, Chakuro stumbles upon a life-altering discovery - a captivating girl whose presence will not only shape his own destiny but also revolutionize the delicate balance within the Mud Whale's insular world.
