Argument
Set in 1955 in the vibrant city of Kokuga, Hofu, Yamaguchi Prefecture, our story transports us back to an era steeped in history. Once the majestic capital known as Suo no Kuni, traces of the illustrious Heian Period still linger in the ruins and evocative place names that dot the landscape. Our spirited protagonist is Shinko, a precocious third-grade student hailing from a distinguished local family. Sporting a charming and enigmatic curl on her forehead, affectionately dubbed her "Mai Mai," Shinko's true passion lies in frolicking amidst the enchanting fields. Secretly, however, she unveils a vivid imagination that effortlessly transports her to the bygone days of the Heian Period, lingering in every nook and cranny of her mind. One fateful day, a captivating girl named Kiiko arrives from bustling Tokyo, finding herself thrust into Shinko's class. Despite the palpable disparity of her new surroundings, an unexpected bond slowly blossoms between the two. As their friendship deepens, they unwittingly find themselves entangled in a mysterious incident that dates back a thousand years.
