Osomatsu-kun marked Mainichi Broadcasting's magnificent foray into the realm of anime broadcasting. Astoundingly, for a whopping 45 years, the network refrained from showcasing an anime adaptation of a Shounen Sunday manga, until the sensational arrival of Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic in 2012. However, it was the vintage era of the late 1960s and early 1970s when Osomatsu-kun graced the screens of Tokyo 12 Channel (now famously referred to as TV Tokyo). Surprisingly, after its initial run in the 1970s, Osomatsu-kun disappeared from the airwaves, slipping into the realms of mythical lost shows. However, just when all hope seemed lost, a remarkable discovery was made in 1990 – the original prints, thought to have vanished, were found gracefully preserved in the illustrious Senrioka studio of Mainichi Broadcasting. Finally, after many unforeseen twists and turns, fans were ecstatic as Osomatsu-kun made its triumphant return on DVD between 2001 and 2003, where it could be cherished anew.
