Argument

Saki Watanabe, 12, has just discovered her psychic abilities and is relieved to be returning to Sage Academy, a special school for psychics, with her friends—the mischievous Satoru Asahina, the shy Mamoru Itou, the cheerful Maria Akizuki, and Shun Aonuma, a mysterious boy whom Saki admires. Unrest looms, however, as Saki begins to wonder about the fate of those who are unable to awaken their powers, and the children become involved in secrecy, such as the rumored Tainted Cats, who are said to kidnap children.
Saki and her friends journey to grow into their roles in the supposed utopia in Shinsekai yori, a unique coming-of-age story. Accepting these roles, on the other hand, may not be easy when confronted with society's dark and shocking truths, as well as the impending chaos brought on by the new world.
